Prison should work
Hi to you all
Up to Buck House a few days ago to visit the Welsh cousins, they were off in the country again, so on to H of C (House of Commons.)
What a dog’s dinner.
What a dog’s dinner.
That stuff about Europe is all red herring, again, red rag to a thinking Scottie (Debate on European Court of Human Rights ruling on convicted prisoner voting rights.)
Debate should have been about - PRISONS - AIMS - COSTS (Jock has done time.)
Prison costs serious bags of biscuits. Yes, prison removes freedom. Yes, prison punishes. Yes, prison holds secure. Yes, prison safeguards us outside.
But prison should also rehabilitate.
Prison must then release back to the outside world.
But prison should also rehabilitate.
Prison must then release back to the outside world.
Rehabilitation and release is hard work and costs. But failure and return to jug costs even more.
So, make prisoners sign onto the electoral roll and have a postal vote two years before release or parole. If they have no home address, give them a postal address in the community into which they will be released. Give them email.
This is not a right. This is not a privilege. It is their duty.
This is not a right. This is not a privilege. It is their duty.
Help prisoners receive and respond to electoral and job and housing opportunities. They do not have to vote.
On release do not dump prisoners at the prison gates. Take them to the community where they aim to settle and work Take them to their home or to decent accommodation.
Stop the crazy merry-go-round - crime - prison - release - crime - prison - release - crime -
What would have become of me and Moll if we had just been put on the street when our time was done?
But that’s another story
