Midsummer Marlene

On Midsummer’s Day we all went to Burford.  We went to visit Marlene at the Elizabeth Finn, Cotswold Home.  I saw hedgehogs, rabbits and a woodpecker.  The sun shone.

Two years ago in North Norfolk, I had walked slowly with Marlene to Holkham beach.  Owen, my running, swimming, cycling chum, and I, we ran and ran on the beach.  Marlene rested, cheerful, caring, a wise woman.  The others took photographs.  R Moll could not walk that far, so she had stayed with Him in the back of the Skoda.  It was a grand day out.

In Burford, Him and Her went with Sid to sit with Marlene.  R Moll and I waited outside in the shade.  Sid is a lovely lady.  A friend for many years, Sid helped Marlene through many difficult months.  She cared, communicated, correlated, with delicacy and effectiveness, for and with family, friends, doctors, hospitals, social workers, McMillan nurses, everyone.

Sid, Strong, Informed, Dependable, we all need a Sid.

At three forty five in the afternoon Marlene’s quiet breathing stopped.

And the angels sing.
